Does My Event Need Private Security Officers?

October 27, 2022

When preparing for an upcoming event, there are a lot of elements that need to be considered to ensure everything runs smoothly. While the guests' entertainment may be the first goal that comes to mind, their security is of the utmost importance. Not all events typically need security officers but in many cases their presence alone makes people feel safe so they can enjoy the event worry free. Read this blog to learn more about what types of events benefit from security officers and the various ways they offer higher levels of protection.

Professional Security Officers

What Type Of Events Use Security Officers?

Not all events need security officers. You wouldn't necessarily need professional security officers to oversee a smaller event that is only hosting a few people, although it couldn't hurt. Below are the most common types of events that essentially require enhanced security and therefore need professional security officers.

Concerts

Concerts are typically big events that host hundred to thousands of people. With large amounts of guests to manage, popular artists that need protection and supervision of access points, musical events can significantly benefit from security officers. Measure the size of the event, to see how many security officers will be needed and what tasks you are wanting them to do.

Weddings

You may be surprised to see weddings on this list. Although most weddings are not as large as other events and may not need as many officers, there are still many reasons why you may want a few there. Your wedding is a special occasion and this is the one day you want things to go perfectly. Many unforeseen issues can occur that may ruin your special day. From the family member who had one too many drinks to an unwanted party-crasher, professionally trained security officers can quickly and discretely handle a variety of incidents that may occur. This will ensure, especially for larger weddings, the bride and groom enjoy their day without distractions and all their guests are protected if an incident were to occur.

Political Gatherings

Maybe the mayor is coming to talk at your school or your hotel is housing a political event. Whether your event is large or small, when a political figure is involved, enhancing security is always a necessity. Due to their status, they'll more than likely have their own protection. However, it's important to manage the crowd, access points and have added personnel available if an incident were to occur.

Carnivals/Festivals

Events like carnivals and festivals typically contain large crowds, children and even alcohol. This mixture quickly creates a heightened need for security, management and organizational tactics. Additionally, hosting an event where there will be multiple cash transactions such as food, drinks, and souvenirs, it would be beneficial to consider hiring professional security. Protect employees, volunteers, and patrons by providing an obvious deterrent to potential criminals.

Grand Openings

Whether you are opening a restaurant, nightclub, or casino, there is potential for disaster when large crowds gather and expectations are mounting. People in crowds don’t always behave sensibly, and potential danger might be challenging for someone other than a trained security officer to detect. Security is a strategic investment that can protect your business from a public relations disaster that this type of event can potentially bring.

Should I Hire Armed or Unarmed Security Officers?

What are the pros and cons of armed and unarmed officers? All security officers provide a level of safety by their presence on a property. Armed security officers provide a different perception to customers and or visitors to a property due to them being armed. Armed security officers are required to have more training due to the management of firearms, which is factor to consider because the guards will typically cost more than unarmed officers. It's also important to remember these officers do have the ability to use lethal force if necessary. However, you need to consider what type of event your are running to decide if you should hire armed security officers. For instance, is the event going to include a large amount of guests that will be too difficult to handle on your own? If so, a security team can help with crowd control and will be highly trained if an incident were to occur.

Additionally, if you’re going to supply alcohol, an armed officer could assist in helping controlling a situation if a person were to act inappropriately or violent. Lastly, you’ll want to consider where the event is taking place and if there any concerns with the venue itself. Security companies with extensive training programs for professionally licensed security officers, specialize in responding quickly and efficiently. If an emergency occurs, your event benefits by having security officers available to assist guests.
