Which Type Of Businesses Require The Most Security?

Which Type Of Businesses Need The Most SecurityIf you've turned on the news recently, you may feel that the world we live in is rife with risk and has become increasingly dangerous. Whether it's emergencies in our schools and entertainment venues, or tragedies within our cities, the need for effective security has never been so apparent.

While it's important that all businesses are vigilant about security, there are inevitably some industries that face larger challenges in keeping their property, staff, and guests safe.

Continue reading to learn about the type of businesses that require the most security.

Healthcare Facilities

Healthcare facilities and hospitals are frequent targets of theft, and other alarming incidents. Inevitably, private healthcare facilities are responsible for protecting the lives of patients and the medical professionals that work to protect them. Administrators must be proactive about safeguarding people and property to combat the threat of physical harm from patients and visitors against caregivers, as well as the risk of medication and equipment threat.

Healthcare facilities are a hub of 24/7 activity, and thus the requirements for security systems are often quite detailed. There are multiple technological strategies that can augment traditional security strategies:

    • Use security cameras and video analytics to assure that patients and staff are safe, implementing video software that analyzes and identified pre-defined threats
    • Managed services from a security company, including remote video monitoring of key areas with motion detection
    • Access control systems can implement ID badges of biometric access.

Corporate Headquarters

Modern businesses are faced with a strange reality: what should you do when a disgruntled employee returns to do harm to its people or premises? Corporate headquarters are at risk of data theft, perimeter issues, and breaches by unauthorized visitors. Corporate owners find themselves devoting core business resources to address security concerns, however, the challenge is magnified for businesses with a mid to large workforce and an expansive headquarters. Typically, corporate headquarters benefit most from these essential security measures:

Warehouse Facilities

Although "warehouses" wouldn't be an answer that's top of mind for most people, they are a vital aspect in the chain of commerce. Essentially, warehouse owners profit from ensuring that clients receive the goods they need, and in the amount they need; as a result, thieves view warehouses as the holy grail of goods.

Warehouse owners should consider an external surveillance system, in addition to security that provides an automatic police alert and records the footage from the system. This can go a long ways towards deterring theft, and can also facilitate the recovery of goods by having clear images of the criminals in order to have police track them. Educational Institutions

In the aftermath of heartbreaking tragedies that have happened in schools across the United States over the past decade, there’s a moral mandate for educational institutions to guarantee the safety of their students, teachers, and additional staff. Additionally, parents are requesting action and assurance, as schools need to be proactive by taking the right steps with advanced security and safety procedures. This issue hasn’t alluded us, as we’ve covered it in a past blog post, “Safety, Safety, Safety: Improving Schools With Security Technology” Some of these options include:

    • Detailed visitor management and mass notification systems
    • A network of digital cameras that stream to a central location
    • Seamless functionality between technologies and increasing site management capabilities
    • A campus-wide security system with incorporated access control between buildings.

A site-specific security system absolutely needs to be in place to ensure that every person and building on campus is as secure as possible, whether it’s a private or charter school, or a college or university.

Retail & Big Box Stores

Big box stores and retail establishments should always keep their security system top-of-mind. While staying open 24 hours a day does lessen the need for  security alarms, it also establishes the need for internal surveillance and the ability to communicate what is happening during monitoring. As theft in any retail situation is so prevalent, most business owners also have a good standing relationship with the local police department. This also means that incorporating automatic alarms even during business hours can be a faster and more effective way to apprehend a thief.
